“Gary wasn’t just a fantastic person and a football legend, he was a really forward thinker when it came to coaching, tactics and preparation and I hope this will be a fitting tribute to his legacy as a manager.

“We’ve decided that all the proceeds from this year’s event will go to a charity of Gary’s wife, Louise Speed’s choice and we hope that continues for years to come.”

The UK Football Academy coach education institute will start on Feb 8 and Verheijen is hoping it will attract the world’s best coaches and managers.

He said: “It’s going to be a lot of hard work, but we hope we are going to get some of the biggest names in world football to come to London.

“We want to bring all the best idea together and have something that puts the UK at the forefront of coaching innovation.”

  • The Gary Speed Football Congress at the Emirates Stadium on February 8th, supported by the PFA and LMA, will become an annual fundraising event on the football industry calendar. To make donations, visit www.ukfootballacademy.net
